Scripture:  Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will never forget you. See, I have inscribed you in the palms of my hands.  Isaiah 49: 15-16a

Meditation:  I chose to write and reflect on these Bible verses today, as the imagery displayed in them is, in my opinion, some of the most beautiful imagery of how VERY much God loves us.  When I think of the love between a mother and her newborn child, I think of a love like none other: pure, deep, fierce, sacrificial, and unconditional. And the child is completely dependent on the mother…. utterly in love with the mother, who is a provider and caregiver with a love like no other. And yet, God’s love for us is greater!

Our names are written, carved even, in God’s palm, where he can hold us, keep us close, remember us… and where His son has scars from the nails on the cross. Remember the song, “He’s got the whole world in his hands…”? Consider the vastness of his love for us. The whole world is in his hands, yet he knows EACH of our names individually. He knows our needs, our desires, our hopes, our fears, our loneliness, and our joys. Amazing.

Prayer:  Dear God, Please help me to always remember how much you love me. Thank you for inscribing my name in the palms of your hands. When I feel alone or worried, remind me of this symbol of your devotion, care, and love… the love a Mother, Father, Artist, Creator feels for their child/creation, me. Amen.
