Isaiah 40:11 – He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; He gently leads those that have young.
The symbolism around shepherds and flock is embedded in our consciousness: the flock need leading because individuals follow the group, and the group are prone to wander aimlessly. The lambs are weak, vulnerable, innocent. Sometimes we’re the sheep, sometimes the lambs, sometimes a shepherd, living our lives at the behest of the Shepherd.
May we follow the Shepherd’s lead and be willing to change direction when called to do so.
