God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.  We love because God first loved us.  I John 4: 1, 19

When God breathed life into the first man and woman, that breath was God’s love, which abides in us still.  All the ways we can use God’s love to bring peace and balance to the world are so desperately needed now.  We have this great gift–God’s love–that God is asking us to share.

It’s a little like the Heifer collection we do each year during Lent.  The idea is to not only give a gift that will enable a family to eat and earn a livelihood, but it also requires them to pass on the offspring and what they have learned, so others may be able to help themselves too.  God’s gift of love also comes with a requirement that we pass it on, to love our neighbors–including our “neighbors” across this big interconnected world–as ourselves.

Dear God, help us to share your great gift of love with others, and to use the power of your love to promote peace and justice. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
