For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
Isaiah’s few statements seem simple, but their implications are profound. We can’t approach the heavens in this life, nor can we know the mind or ways of the Lord, no matter how we try cast Him in our image. So where does that leave us in our relationship to the Lord? For me, it is the great leap of faith from our earth-bound limitations toward the unknown. Doing what we can and the best we can, depending on inspiration along the way, raises us slightly off-the ground toward the Divine. And when that happens, we know it.
Lift me off my feet, Lord, so that I may get closer to You.
