Scripture:  Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.  And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.   Philippians 2:5-8

Meditation:  In this letter to the Philippians, Paul encouraged the people to imitate Jesus in his humility and obedience to God.  Paul tells them that their mind should be the same as Jesus’ who set aside his divine rights out of love for his Father and took the form of a servant, being obedient to death. We should strive for a Christ-like mind, setting aside our privileges to serve others rather than our own self-interests.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the example of Jesus, who demonstrated humility by emptying himself of divine power that set him aside from us.  Jesus assumed the attitude of serving others and united us in spiritual love, tenderness and compassion.  Please help us to have faith and follow your will.  Amen.
