Matthew 3: 16-17   And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were open to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”An interesting feature of some traditional scriptures that are read in Advent, is to focus on John who was the baptizer and the life changing event of Jesus’ baptism. What a way to begin his public ministry with the Spirit of God affirming Jesus as beloved. And in our relationship with God and the One whose birth we remember, we are also (all of us!) beloved by God.
